LESS IS MORE: This committee is focused on methods to REDUCE materials usage of single use plastics, reduce food waste, and clarify recycling methods in our area.
The Less is More committee was initiated in fall 2021 to explore food waste, recycling pathways, and resource use. In September, initial members conducted a fact finding trip to Recycle Montana/4 Corners Recycling. An article, distributed to interested organizations and the media, was developed to report our findings.
In November we used the SAM (specific, achievable, and measureable) method of project determination to determine if there was basis for a campaign. Brainstorming turned up quite a few directions we could take! The participants agreed that REDUCTION in container materials is absolutely necessary, and further work could be accomplished in clarification of recycling methods. In our December meeting we explored the use of compostable materials in take away containers, using the models of Green2Go in NC and GoBox in OR. Down the road we’d like to develop a Reduction in Materials Use Workshop, and continue explorations into how food waste could be kept out of the trash.
